Types of Blood Tests

  1. Complete Blood Count (CBC): Often part of a regular checkup, this measures red and white blood cells, hemoglobin, and platelets to screen for anemia, infections, or clotting disorders.
  2. Basic & Comprehensive Metabolic Panels (BMP/CMP): These “blood chemistry” tests measure glucose, calcium, and electrolytes. The CMP goes further by including liver and kidney function markers like albumin and bilirubin.
  3. Lipid Profile: This panel measures “good” (HDL) and “bad” (LDL) cholesterol and triglycerides to evaluate your risk for heart disease.
  4. Blood Sugar Tests (HbA1c & Glucose): Used to diagnose and manage diabetes by measuring current or long-term average glucose levels.
  5. Thyroid Panel: Measures hormones like TSH and T4 to detect if your metabolism-regulating thyroid is overactive or underactive.
  6. Nutrient & Vitamin Tests: Checks for essential levels of Vitamin D, B12, or iron to prevent deficiencies that cause fatigue or bone weakness.
